Tide Construction Ltd, known for its pioneering approach in modular building, has announced a substantial dividend payout. Recent accounts have exposed a £23m dividend distribution to its proprietor, John Fleming, rooted in financial results showing an impressive turnover growth of 11%. This ascent took the turnover from £177.5m in 2022 to £197.2m in the year concluding on 31st August 2023. Nevertheless, despite this fiscal upsurge, pre-tax profit has seen a contraction, descending from £11.1m to £7.1m.
In this financial environment, the company’s net assets fell from £74.6m to £57.4m, a change majorly attributed to the substantial dividend paid. John Fleming, the 72-year-old Irish owner, remains satisfied with the revenue trajectory, as per the annual report. He acknowledged the adverse implications of continuing price inflation affecting materials and subcontractor costs, which consequently compressed margins. However, project management endeavours mitigated the comprehensive impacts of these financial pressures within the company’s core operations.
Despite these economic hurdles, Tide Construction has accomplished a landmark achievement in the modular building sector. The completion of the College Road development in Croydon, including a 35-storey tower and a 50-storey tower that stands as Europe’s tallest volumetric modular building at 163 metres, underscores the firm’s innovative leadership in the construction domain. These structures, housing a total of 937 homes, were realised through the collaboration with its sister company, Vision Modular Systems, in Bedford.
The strategic focus of Tide Construction aligns with embracing the transformative momentum in offsite construction techniques and advancing modular technology. The firm’s directors are diligently concentrating on navigating the challenges presented by material costs while leveraging technological advancements to reinforce operational robustness.
Tide Construction Ltd navigates economic challenges with strategic innovation and a focus on modular technology.
