Zimmer Biomet Holdings (NYSE: ZBH) has extended its exclusive distribution agreement with THINK Surgical for the TMINI robotic knee system, the companies said on 13 October 2026.
Zimmer Biomet shares rose 1.45% to $92.00 on the day of the announcement, though the stock remains down 2.98% over the prior 20 trading sessions, according to consolidated exchange data.
Multi-year renewal builds on 2024 tie-up

The companies have agreed a multi-year extension of their Limited Exclusive Distribution and Supply Agreement, first signed on 12 June 2024, for THINK’s wireless, handheld TMINI miniature robotic system. The original deal was independently reported at the time by Healio and MassDevice, which both confirmed TMINI as the robotic platform at the centre of the arrangement.
Zimmer Biomet markets TMINI for use alongside its Persona Knee System, and the companies said the extension is designed to help accelerate adoption of the combination. As first reported by Benzinga, the renewed terms continue the exclusivity that has defined the relationship since 2024, rather than introducing a new commercial structure.
Open platform, exclusive lane
The arrangement sits awkwardly, on paper, with THINK Surgical’s broader positioning. The company markets its robots as open-platform systems compatible with implants from multiple manufacturers. Its exclusivity carve-out with Zimmer Biomet applies specifically to TMINI’s pairing with Persona, leaving THINK free to work with other implant makers elsewhere while Zimmer Biomet locks down a guaranteed channel for that one combination.
That matters more now than it did in 2024. Rivals including Stryker have continued pushing their own handheld and portable robotics, such as Mako’s RPS offering, into the same corner of the knee-replacement market. Extending the TMINI tie-up gives Zimmer Biomet continued access to a competitor-agnostic robotics platform at a point when the handheld segment is getting more crowded, a defensive move on the ecosystem as much as a growth one.
No fresh disclosure, no market reaction

No 8-K filing specifically disclosing the extension has appeared on Zimmer Biomet’s EDGAR filer page, consistent with a transaction that falls below the materiality threshold for a company of its size. Trading activity backs that reading: volume on the announcement day ran at 0.95 times its 20-day average, and daily short-sale ratios tracked by FINRA held in a 0.28-to-0.61 range through the surrounding weeks, showing no build-up of positioning ahead of the news.
The extension arrives against a steady, unspectacular earnings backdrop. Zimmer Biomet reported net income of $198.3m on revenue of $2.177bn in the second quarter of 2026, continuing a pattern of quarterly net income ranging roughly between $150m and $250m since early 2024. Diluted earnings per share for the same quarter came in at $1.03, versus $0.77 a year earlier. Set against that run rate, a robotics distribution renewal is incremental rather than transformative for the group’s numbers, though it does protect a supply line in a technology area management has flagged as central to its knee franchise.
What the deal secures
For Zimmer Biomet, the renewal means continuity: surgeons already trained on TMINI alongside Persona keep access to the combination without a gap in supply. For THINK Surgical, it locks in a large, established distribution partner for a system designed to be portable enough to use outside a traditional robotics suite, a selling point the company has leaned on since the original 2024 agreement.
Neither side disclosed new financial terms attached to the extension. The companies’ statement framed the renewal around clinical adoption rather than commercial value, language consistent with the original 2024 announcement. With no accompanying regulatory filing and no unusual share-price or short-interest move, the market has so far treated the update as exactly what the companies called it: a continuation, not a new chapter.
