GE (NYSE: GE) and Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) have partnered to bring GE´s Predix platform for industrial Internet to the Microsoft Azure cloud, the companies said.
The move marks a step in a collaboration between the two companies, which will allow customers to capture intelligence from their industrial assets and take advantage of Microsoft´s enterprise cloud applications.
According to Gartner, 6.4 billion connected things are expected to be in use worldwide this year, and that number is predicted to climb to more than 20 billion by 2020, presenting opportunities for companies to drive their own digital transformation.
GE and Microsoft said they plan to integrate Predix with Azure IoT Suite and Cortana Intelligence Suite along with Microsoft business applications, in order to connect industrial data with business processes and analytics.
