- Participants will benefit from mentorship, masterclasses, and work experience, concluding with a creative showcase.
- Applications are now open, with the programme slated to run from November 2024 to April 2025.
Factory International and adidas Originals have collaboratively unveiled the Originals Creator Network North, a significant initiative designed to support the creative development of young people residing in and around Manchester. This programme draws inspiration from the London Creator Network, which has been instrumental in fostering underrepresented talent within London’s bustling creative industry.
The extension of this programme to the North of England addresses the underrepresentation of the region in the creative sector. Despite having 23% of the British population, the North only accounts for 15% of employment in creative industries, as highlighted by recent research. By offering this programme, the organisers hope to retain emerging creatives within the region, thereby strengthening the local creative ecosystem and mitigating the need for relocation.
Manchester’s Aviva Studios, the base of Factory International, will host the six-month programme for 20 selected candidates. These individuals will receive a comprehensive package of support, including a £600 bursary, mentorship, and the opportunity to engage in masterclasses led by industry professionals. The programme is designed to culminate in a creative showcase at Aviva Studios, offering participants a platform to present their work.
Chris Walsh, Vice President of Brand North Europe at adidas, articulated the programme’s significance, stating, ‘Launching the Originals Creator Network North project is a testament to the strength of the programme and the impact it has made within London’s creative scene over the past three years.’ He further emphasized the commitment to nurturing talent and equipping participants with the skills needed to forge successful creative careers.
The move by Factory International to introduce the Originals Creator Network North aligns with its ongoing efforts to inspire young people and support the next generation of artists. Factory International has consistently provided learning and training opportunities, such as vocational training through Factory Academy and artist development via Factory Fellowships, fostering growth among emerging artists.
John McGrath, Artistic Director and CEO of Factory International, remarked on the value of the arts in building rewarding careers, asserting, ‘We’re committed to making creative skills and opportunities accessible to everyone – from supporting emerging artists to training the next generation of diverse talent.’ This partnership with adidas thus represents a strategic expansion of their endeavours, connecting with a broader spectrum of young creatives.
The Originals Creator Network North is poised to significantly impact the creative landscape in Northern England, nurturing future talent and fostering regional development.
