Waitrose, renowned for its premium grocery offerings, has announced a significant investment of £10 million aimed at reducing prices across a selected range of its No.1 and Duchy Organic products. This strategic move targets nearly 250 grocery items, including several household staples such as cheese, croissants, and pork joints, reflecting Waitrose’s commitment to providing value without compromising on quality. The reductions include notable items like No.1 Vintage Cornish Cheddar, with prices slashed from £3.35 to £3.00, and Duchy Organic Basmati Rice, reduced from £3.40 to £3.00.
This price reduction initiative, part of Waitrose’s ongoing efforts to make high-quality food more accessible, represents the supermarket chain’s sixth such action since February 2023. Over the past 18 months, Waitrose has invested a cumulative total of £140 million in these price drop campaigns, a testament to its dedication to respond to consumer needs amid ever-changing economic conditions.
The current campaign is extensive, implementing price cuts on approximately 1,400 products across the board. It reports an average price reduction exceeding 7%, which aligns with Waitrose’s strategic aim to maintain customer trust and satisfaction by delivering reliable value. The company’s commercial director, Charlotte Di Cello, emphasised the importance of offering high-quality products that customers love, especially during Organic Month, highlighting the timeliness and relevance of this initiative.
Some of the specific changes in pricing demonstrate significant percentages of reduction, ensuring substantial savings for consumers. For instance, customers can now purchase No.1 White Sourdough Loaf and No.1 Free Range Pork Spare Ribs at noticeably lower prices, with the sourdough loaf reduced by 9.1% and the pork ribs by 10%. These changes are reflective of the broader reductions across Waitrose’s premium and organic product categories.
This initiative underscores Waitrose’s continued commitment to delivering quality products at competitive prices, enhancing customer loyalty.
