Viavi Solutions (NASDAQ: VIAV) has applauded the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and member companies for approving ANSI/TIA-568-C.2-1 specifications for Category 8 cabling systems, the company said.
These specifications, which have been in development since 2012, mark a major step forward in cabling infrastructure to enable data centers to support evolving networks. Viavi has been an active participant in committee work leading up to approval of the specifications by the TIA TR-42 Committee.
The Category 8 standard addresses balanced twisted-pair cabling supporting 25G and 40G BASE-T interfaces, over a length up to 30 meters and frequency up to 2.0 GHz. Copper cabling with these specifications becomes more relevant in data center applications, especially for rack-level interconnect or in topologies such as leaf-spine. Data center managers will no longer need to always choose fiber over copper, but rather utilize each where it is a better fit with respect to capacity, range, cost and ease of deployment.
Viavi Solutions software and hardware platforms and instruments deliver end-to-end visibility across physical, virtual and hybrid networks. The company provides anti-counterfeiting solutions for currency authentication and high-value optical components and instruments for diverse government and commercial applications.
