Suttons has initiated a comprehensive expansion of its Widnes site, catalysed by notable growth in its tanker and international operations. This ambitious project is supported by a substantial investment of £1.5 million. The company has strategically acquired an additional one-and-a-half acres of land next to its current premises, which has been levelled, surfaced, and equipped with new drainage systems and lighting, significantly enhancing the site’s functionality.
Through these enhancements, Suttons has increased its trailer parking capacity by 55 spaces, thereby considerably boosting its operational capacity and ensuring ongoing compliance with stringent safety standards. This expansion not only meets present operational demands but also lays the groundwork for future development opportunities, signalling Suttons’ commitment to maintaining a competitive edge in the industry.
In a bid to further optimise its operations, Suttons’ international division has incorporated two high-capacity forklift trucks. These additions are pivotal in maximising the efficiency and throughput of its Widnes site, enabling the company to better accommodate and support its growing international business activities.
Chief Executive John Sutton highlighted the strategic significance of these expansions, stating, “This expansion represents a major milestone for Suttons. The investment in our Widnes site not only supports our current growth but also positions us for future success.” His statement underscores the strategic foresight in aligning the company’s infrastructure with its long-term growth goals.
Additionally, with a forward-thinking approach towards sustainability, Suttons is proactively involved in trials for hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) fuel. Jointly conducted with Nippon Gases UKI, these trials aim to sustainably reduce carbon emissions within logistical operations, reflecting Suttons’ commitment to environmental responsibility.
Suttons’ expansion at Widnes is a strategic move, poised to support its current success and drive future growth while embracing sustainability.
