Donagh O’Sullivan has stepped into the role of Chief Executive Officer at the Battersea Power Station Development Company. This appointment marks a significant move in O’Sullivan’s career following his short-term leadership at the troubled Inland Homes prior to its collapse last year. He brings extensive experience in the construction industry, having commenced his career with Balfour Beatty in 2001 before ascending to the position of CEO at Galliard Homes from 2017 to 2022.
The Battersea Power Station project represents a massive urban renewal undertaking, with aims to accommodate 25,000 people living and working on-site upon its completion. The project currently houses approximately 2,500 residents and offers expansive commercial space, which notably includes Apple’s 500,000 square foot UK headquarters. The development is progressing through its eight planned phases, of which two have been completed so far, including the restoration of the historic Grade II*-listed power station by Mace in the later part of 2022.
The company’s leadership has expressed strong confidence in O’Sullivan. Tan Sri Jagan Sabapathy, Chair of Battersea Power Station Project Holding Company, highlighted that O’Sullivan’s “exceptional leadership skills, strategic insights and deep industry knowledge” make him the “ideal choice” for the development’s ongoing journey. O’Sullivan himself has expressed admiration for the project’s vision and team, acknowledging the remarkable progress that has already been achieved.
Ownership of the Battersea Power Station Development Company lies with a consortium of Malaysian investors, primarily led by Permodalan Nasional Berhad and the Employees Provident Fund Board of Malaysia. This foreign investment underscores the project’s international significance and the confidence investors place in the revitalisation of this iconic site.
O’Sullivan’s appointment is poised to advance the next phase of the Battersea Power Station development.
