Boots is planning to close 300 of its branches across the UK over the next 12 months.
The health and beauty retailer said that it aims to “consolidate” stores in close proximity to each other.
Affected staff will be offered work at nearby stores, according to BBC News.
Following the closures Boots will operate 1,900 UK branches.
Walgreens Boots Alliance, the US pharmacy group that owns Boots, said that the chain recorded retail sales growth of 13.4% in the third quarter of its financial year, compared to a year earlier, and its market share increased for the ninth consecutive quarter.
The rise in sales was largely driven by volume, with more customers shopping more often both in store and online. Sales on Boots.com were up 25.2% year-on-year.
A year ago, Walgreens Boots Alliance abandoned plans to sell Boots and its No7 Beauty brand.
Walgreens acquired full control of Boots in 2014.
