The UK government has engaged the services of a London-based startup, Greenpixie, to evaluate the climate impact of its newly introduced One Login system. This digital service offers a unified portal for UK citizens, simplifying access to various public services and streamlining government procedures. Greenpixie, a company founded in 2021 and situated near Covent Garden, specialises in delivering usage-based sustainability data tailored for cloud services. The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) has selected Greenpixie to track crucial metrics, specifically focusing on the energy and water consumption involved in operating the servers that support One Login. This partnership underlines a commitment to integrating eco-friendly practices in the government’s digital infrastructure.
Feryal Clark, the Digital Minister, highlighted the dual focus on technological enhancement and environmental stewardship.
