Reuters has announced Southwest Airlines has informed employees that without an increase in passenger demand, it will be forced to take steps to reduce staffing, news source said.
Employees face a Wednesday deadline whether to participate in a voluntary incentive program to leave the airline.
Southwest said furloughs and layoffs remain a very last resort, but the company can´t rule them out as a possibility.
Southwest said the recent rise in COVID cases and increasing regional restrictions on businesses and states requiring quarantine aren´t positive developments for the business, and the company is concerned about the impact on already weak travel demand.”
