PROMPERÚ has provided an update on tourism operations following the railway incident affecting access to Machupicchu. The organisation expressed solidarity with those impacted and extended support to the victim’s family.
Immediately after the incident, the Peruvian State activated established tourist protection and assistance procedures. The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism led the response through the Tourist Protection Network.
Emergency services focused on the care of affected passengers. Evacuation, medical treatment, and on-site assistance were delivered with support from medical teams and specialist personnel.
Rail passengers were evacuated in phases during the early hours. Rail services resumed only after inspections confirmed safe operating conditions.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the incident. PROMPERÚ stated that it respects the investigation and will follow the outcomes as required by law.
Visitors impacted by the disruption have access to rescheduling and refund options for Machupicchu tickets. Tourism organisations and service providers remain engaged with authorities to support travellers.
PROMPERÚ confirmed that Machupicchu is open and that visitor activity is returning under controlled and coordinated conditions.
The organisation noted that challenges can arise in any destination. It stated that Peru has relied on established response mechanisms to manage the situation and protect visitors.
PROMPERÚ reaffirmed its commitment to responsible tourism, visitor safety, clear information, and cooperation with public and private stakeholders.
