Lisburn in Northern Ireland and Stirling in Scotland follow as the second and third top cities, scoring 75.7 and 72.2 respectively. Lisburn benefits from low pollution levels and affordable living costs, taking just 34 months to save for a deposit. Stirling, strategically positioned between Glasgow and Edinburgh, is highlighted for its strong healthcare and purchasing power.
Recent changes in stamp duty regulations have sparked a surge in interest among potential buyers. With the £300,000 Stamp Duty threshold set to return in April 2025, searches for ‘Stamp Duty first-time buyer’ have increased by 450% in the past 90 days.
Wayfair’s First-Time Buyer Index evaluates cities based on quality of life and the average time to save for a deposit, showcasing cities like Coventry and Newcastle-upon-Tyne among the top five. Notably, a majority of the top-ranking cities are in England, reaffirming its attraction for new homeowners.
