- The strategic move aligns with Mars’ recent acquisition plans.
Mars, a major food and drink manufacturer, has appointed Hans Bakker as the new regional general manager for Europe. This decision is part of broader strategic leadership adjustments within the company.
Hans Bakker, who will lead Mars Food & Nutrition Europe, is tasked with steering a diverse brand portfolio including Ben’s Original, Dolmio, and Suzi Wan. He will report directly to Shaid Shah, the global president. Bakker’s career at Mars spans over two decades, most recently serving as vice president of global transformation since 2021. In that role, he led transformational programmes across 30 countries.
Before his recent position, Bakker held several sales and marketing roles, eventually becoming the general manager for Mars Food & Nutrition in Germany. His extensive experience within the company makes him a fitting choice for the new role, especially as Mars seeks to solidify its presence in Europe.
Hans Bakker expressed enthusiasm for his new role, highlighting Europe’s rich cultures and culinary traditions. He is eager to collaborate with colleagues across the continent to drive growth and deliver nutritious meals to consumers.
Bakker succeeds Dave Dusangh, who will assume the position of regional president for North America. This transition is part of the company’s ongoing investment in talent, which is viewed as crucial for enhancing business and brand performance. Shaid Shah expressed confidence in both Bakker and Dusangh to fortify their respective regions.
This leadership change coincides with Mars’s expansive strategic initiatives, including the significant acquisition of Kellanova, the maker of Pringles, valued at over $29 billion (£22 billion) earlier this year.
Hans Bakker’s appointment reflects Mars’ commitment to leveraging experienced leadership for continued growth.
