In a significant move to bolster its presence in the UK construction sector, the Denmark-based Rockwool Group has announced the acquisition of Wetherby Building Systems Ltd. This acquisition is a strategic step for Rockwool as it continues to expand its footprint in the market for sustainable construction solutions. By acquiring Wetherby, Rockwool consolidates its position as a leader in external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS).
The integration of Wetherby Building Systems into the Rockwool Wall Systems organisation marks the rebranding of Wetherby as Wetherby Wall Systems. This move aligns Wetherby with other global ETICS specialists within the Rockwool Group, including Heck Wall Systems in Germany and Fast Wall Systems in Poland. Such integration is expected to enhance the technological capabilities and market reach of Rockwool’s wall systems division.
Wetherby, headquartered in Golborne, Greater Manchester, has a robust operational framework with approximately 78 employees. The company reported a pre-tax profit of £10 million on a turnover of £48 million last year, showcasing its financial strength within the industry. As part of Rockwool, Wetherby will transition to offering a complete stone wool-based product portfolio, following similar successful transitions in other markets.
Jes Munk Hansen, Chief Executive of Rockwool Group, affirmed the company’s commitment to providing sustainable and non-combustible façade solutions. He highlighted that the share of stone wool insulation in Wetherby’s business has been steadily increasing, a trend that will continue under Rockwool’s aegis. This acquisition underscores Rockwool’s investment in transforming the UK construction industry towards more resilient building practices.
On the other hand, Wetherby’s managing director, Bob Deane, expressed confidence in the acquisition, citing the strong alignment between the two companies in terms of business models, technologies, and corporate cultures. Deane believes that being part of the Rockwool organisation will enable Wetherby to realise its full potential in delivering effective wall system solutions.
This acquisition represents a strategic alignment of resources and expertise, promising advancements in sustainable façade solutions in the UK.
