This landmark 10-storey hotel will be located on Rochdale Road, north of Manchester city centre, and will add 229 rooms to the city’s accommodation offerings.
In July 2024, Whitbread, the company owning Premier Inn, designated GMI Construction as the main contractor for this venture. The appointment underscored the trust and confidence Whitbread places in GMI to deliver high-quality construction projects on schedule. This week, the two companies celebrated the commencement of the project with a ceremonial ground-breaking event, marking a milestone in their ongoing partnership.
The Rochdale Road location was secured by Whitbread earlier in February 2024 from Premcor, reinstating progress on a project that had previously been delayed. The acquisition and subsequent development reflect Whitbread’s commitment to expanding its hotel portfolio in strategic locations across the UK.
Will Steward, Project and Programme Manager for Whitbread, remarked on the progress achieved since acquiring the site, noting substantial efforts made to overcome previous obstacles and resume construction. Anthony Judge, GMI Construction’s regional director, expressed enthusiasm about the strengthening partnership with Whitbread, emphasizing the successful collaboration witnessed in prior projects, such as the notable Premier Inn in Keswick.
