SP Group, known for supplying temporary protection products to the construction industry, has completed the acquisition of several key assets from Gilray Plant, a prominent scaffold merchant. Following this acquisition, Gilray Plant is being rebranded as SP Gilray, marking a new chapter in its existence.
The acquisition presents a significant milestone for SP Group, according to Nick Munster, the managing director. He highlighted Gilray’s esteemed reputation within the scaffold supplies sector and its importance to the UK construction industry. Munster emphasised the opportunity this acquisition presents to cater to a wider range of clients, from independent contractors to large international scaffolding firms.
The acquisition follows the passing of Gilray Plant’s founder and director, Ralph Wilson, last year. His widow, Sarah Wilson, cited SP Group’s commitment to excellence, notably through their unique recycling scheme for temporary protection products, as a decisive factor in her decision to pass on the Gilray name. This transition, she believes, will carry forward Ralph Wilson’s legacy while unveiling new opportunities for growth.
Based in Antrim, SP Group supplies various products such as debris netting, dust containment, and PPE. With this acquisition, they now have a strategic base in Erith, Southeast England, enhancing their operational capacity. Tracey Law, formerly Gilray Plant’s operations manager and now SP Gilray branch manager, remarked on the seamless transition to SP Group. She noted that both companies shared similar values, focused on high standards of products and customer service.
The acquisition denotes a forward-thinking strategy by SP Group, expanding their operational footprint and fortifying their market position. SP Group’s emphasis on quality and sustainability aligns closely with the values held by Gilray, ensuring that the transition remains true to the original ethos of both companies.
This acquisition marks a new beginning for Gilray, underpinned by SP Group’s sustainable practices and commitment to excellence.
