Keepmoat has commenced an ambitious development project worth £31 million at Water’s Edge in Blackburn. This project marks a substantial investment in the region, aimed at expanding the housing market and offering modern, sustainable living options. Crucially, the initiative focuses on integrating eco-friendly technologies, including solar panels and heat recovery systems, to enhance energy efficiency.
The development comprises a total of 205 new homes. A significant aspect of this project is the collaboration with local bodies such as the Blackburn with Darwen Council and the Great Places housing association. Of the homes constructed, 57 will be dedicated to affordable housing options. Specifically, the initiative will provide 37 apartments available for affordable rent and 20 homes for shared ownership, managed by Plumlife Homes.
In addition to housing, the development includes innovative sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDs) designed to manage rainwater runoff effectively. This approach not only supports environmental sustainability but also contributes to the aesthetic and recreational appeal of the area. The project features public amenities such as play areas and pathways that connect to the Fishmoor Reservoir, encouraging outdoor activities like walking and cycling.
Peter Barlow, Keepmoat’s regional managing director, expressed his enthusiasm for the project’s commencement, noting its strategic location near the town centre and key employment hubs. He stated, “We’re thrilled to see work start on site at Water’s Edge. The development will inject vibrancy into the existing community by introducing formal public open space and a network of cycle and footpath links throughout the site.”
This development stands as a testament to Keepmoat’s commitment to fostering sustainable communities through strategic partnerships and innovative housing solutions.
