The site at 7 Millbank holds historical significance, once serving as the headquarters for British American Tobacco between 1913 and 1915. The existing structure currently supports the operations of the parliamentary estate, further emphasising its importance. Make Architects is at the helm of the design, ensuring that the new nine-storey office building will encompass approximately 12,100 square metres of adaptable workspace. The design intricately intertwines modern elements like a new atrium and roof garden with the reconstruction of the historic Portland stone façade, thus preserving the site’s architectural integrity.
Advanced construction techniques are being employed to address and repair damages inflicted by corroded steelwork that compromised the original façade.
