The partnership between Harlech Foodservice and Farralls Group marks a strategic expansion into the West Midlands.
- Harlech Foodservice leverages Farralls’ Telford site to bolster its £6m growth plan.
- This collaboration follows Harlech’s acquisition of Celtic Foodservices and new depot openings.
- Both firms are committed to sustainability and expanding their market reach.
- Farralls’ strategic location provides a pivotal gateway for Harlech’s expanding operations.
In a strategic move aimed at broadening its operational footprint, Harlech Foodservice has joined forces with Farralls Group to capitalise on unused capacity at Farralls’ Telford depot. This collaboration is a central component of Harlech’s ambitious £6m expansion strategy, highlighting its focus on leveraging existing resources to penetrate the West Midlands market effectively.
The recent acquisition of Celtic Foodservices and the establishment of a new depot in Carmarthen underscore Harlech’s aggressive growth trajectory. The company, based in Criccieth, Gwynedd, with additional depots in Chester, Merthyr Tydfil, and Carmarthen, is poised to dramatically increase its market presence across England and Wales. Employing 250 staff and operating 73 vehicles with five trailers, Harlech is equipped to deliver an extensive range of up to 5,000 product lines to a diverse clientele, including cafes, restaurants, pubs, and public sector entities.
This venture is built upon mutual growth ambitions and shared values between the two companies. Ian Evans, Harlech’s head of operations, noted the fortuitous nature of the partnership’s inception—a serendipitous meeting between Harlech MD David Cattrall and Farralls MD Matthew Farrall. Both organisations are committed to sustainability and reducing their carbon footprint, which complements their expansion goals.
Farralls Group’s infrastructure provides a strategic advantage for Harlech as it looks to establish a presence in new markets. As a Palletforce member, Farralls operates with a robust logistics network, and its Chester-based facilities, which include 140,000 square feet of warehousing, enhance its capability to support this partnership effectively. The group, with its comprehensive fleet and substantial warehousing capabilities, is well-positioned to facilitate Harlech’s objectives.
Matthew Farrall expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating, “We are constantly looking for new markets and new areas…there is spare capacity on the site which we’re happy to partner with Harlech.” The partnership is based on the mutual benefit of strengthening their market presence while adhering to a commitment to sustainable business practices.
As Harlech continues its expansion into the West Midlands, it will initially deploy five lorries and employ five drivers at the Telford depot. Both companies acknowledge the potential for a more significant presence as opportunities for growth materialise, positioning this partnership as a pivotal element in their future strategies.
The collaboration between Harlech Foodservice and Farralls Group exemplifies a strategic alliance poised to advance their mutual growth and sustainability goals.
