Northumbrian Water has announced the completion of its AMP8 framework procurement, appointing 33 suppliers for a substantial £3.6bn investment programme. This announcement points to a significant maturation in the strategic planning of the company, aimed at expanding capacity in a growing industry. By integrating new entrants, the initiative will bring fresh talent and perspectives into the water sector, ensuring robust support for future projects.
Eleven new entrants have joined the supplier list, who will benefit from mentorship and guidance as they integrate into the water sector. This innovative approach underscores Northumbrian Water’s commitment to elevating industry standards while paving the way for increased sector capacity. The introduction of new suppliers promises to enrich the industry with novel ideas and practices.
These contractors will contribute to multiple procurement lots, which are designed to provide wide-ranging support across Northumbrian Water and Essex & Suffolk Water operating areas. The collaboration emphasises a comprehensive delivery model that relies on both external suppliers and in-house integrated delivery services (IDS). This dual approach ensures that the programme benefits from both internal expertise and external innovation.
The Living Water Enterprise contractors, announced earlier this year, are crucial to this expansive undertaking, including teams such as Esh-Stantec and Avove. Their contribution, along with the newly appointed suppliers, reflects the company’s ardent focus on scaling its operations while maintaining quality service delivery. This structured yet flexible framework aids in optimising the company’s capital investment efforts.
Monisha Gower, assets director at Northumbrian Water Group, has articulated the scale of the undertaking through AMP8. “We are nearly tripling our investment programme and this requires a significant increase in delivery capacity,” she noted. This sentiment echoes within the broader water and construction sectors, where the demand for enhanced supply chains is ever-increasing. Her statement highlights the critical need for strategic partnerships to manage the upcoming workload.
The appointment of these suppliers marks a pivotal development in Northumbrian Water’s strategy to enhance its service delivery and operational capacity.
