Winvic Construction is set to build a massive warehouse at Segro Logistics Park Northampton for Yusen Logistics.
- The facility will include over 1.1 million sq ft of ground floor space with a significant mezzanine.
- Winvic will also handle the construction of a fully equipped office space and additional infrastructure for the project.
- Sustainability is a key focus, with the warehouse aiming for a BREEAM Excellent rating, featuring solar panels.
- The project is part of a larger initiative involving a strategic rail freight terminal built by Winvic.
Winvic Construction has embarked on the ambitious task of designing and building a prominent industrial facility, the first of its kind at Segro Logistics Park Northampton. Yusen Logistics is the primary client for this expansive undertaking, which marks a significant development within the park. The considerable scale of the facility is underscored by the 1,144,000 square feet of ground floor warehouse space, complemented by a 333,251 square foot mezzanine, symbolising one of the largest in the United Kingdom.
Beyond mere storage, Winvic’s role extends to constructing a three-storey main office, encompassing a roof terrace, alongside a secondary single-storey hub office. These facilities not only enhance the operational capabilities of Yusen Logistics but also contribute to a more sustainable work environment. With the integration of solar panels covering the roof, the facility seeks to attain a BREEAM Excellent rating, a testament to its ecological and sustainability ambitions.
Enhancing the utility of the site, the facility will include a vast array of external features. This involves the creation of parking solutions accommodating 924 cars, 163 heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), 230 cycles, and 34 motorcycles, with 185 spaces designated for electric vehicles. Facilitating logistics operations are 85 HGV docks and 10 level access doors, all designed to optimise efficiency and throughput.
The strategic importance of this project is heightened by its proximity to a 35-acre rail freight terminal, also established by Winvic. This terminal will enable Yusen Logistics to effectively integrate rail freight transport into their offerings, thereby expanding their logistical options. This development is a keystone in Yusen Logistics’ plan, positioning the Northampton warehouse as the largest facility in their global portfolio upon its completion in March 2025.
Winvic’s involvement in the Segro Logistics Park extends beyond the construction of the warehouse itself. Since January 2021, the company has been instrumental in the site’s transformation, undertaking enabling earthworks, infrastructure development for five million square feet of logistics space, and the construction of the rail freight interchange. In addition to internal development, infrastructural enhancements such as the upgrades to Junctions 15 and 15a of the M1, a bypass around the village of Roade, and a new bridge over the West Coast Mainline underscore Winvic’s comprehensive approach to this NSIP-designated venture.
This development by Winvic, with Yusen Logistics as a key partner, represents a substantial advancement in sustainable industrial construction.
