Yodel is preparing for the busy shopping periods of Black Friday and Christmas by embarking on an ambitious recruitment campaign that seeks to enlist 3,000 seasonal staff, the majority of whom will be couriers. This move comes in response to the anticipated surge in parcel deliveries as consumer spending reaches its peak during the festive season. The company forecasts a significant 53% increase in parcel handling over the coming months, aligning with the seasonal shopping frenzy.
The parcel carrier has observed a noteworthy expansion in parcel volumes, which have surged by 200% over the past two years. This upward trajectory highlights the burgeoning demand for parcel delivery services, fuelling Yodel’s decision to substantially bolster its workforce with recruitment focusing on 2,500 couriers and 600 roles in warehouses.
To further enhance its service offering and attract new couriers, Yodel has partnered with Onsi Pay, introducing a system that affords couriers greater financial flexibility. Through this collaboration, couriers can access a portion of their earnings the next day without waiting for the traditional end-of-pay-cycle payouts. Specifically, users can access up to £200 per withdrawal, with funds transferred to their bank accounts within minutes.
Mike Hancox, Yodel’s CEO, stated, “As we head into the busiest time of year for retailers, we’re expanding our workforce to meet the boom in demand for parcel deliveries as the e-commerce market continues to go from strength to strength. We’re committed to supporting our network of couriers and providing a competitive range of benefits, and our partnership with Onsi Pay will enable us to continue leading the industry on this front.”
Yodel is also enhancing its infrastructure by expanding its international logistics capacity to deliver an additional 50 million parcels for Chinese firms. This extension of services is part of Yodel’s strategic focus on enabling online marketplace activities. To support this growth, Yodel has secured an £85 million funding package aimed at ensuring financial stability and facilitating business modernisation over the next three years.
Yodel’s strategic initiatives demonstrate a robust response to seasonal demands and a commitment to supporting its workforce and clients effectively.
