Rhenus Warehousing Solutions UK proudly announced the opening of their innovative “Rhenus Campus” in Nuneaton, showcasing their commitment to sustainability in logistics operations. Situated on 64 acres, the development includes two warehouses that together span one million square feet, exemplifying a forward-thinking approach to environmentally-conscious warehousing.
The construction harnesses the environmental benefits of Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT), reducing embodied carbon by 64% compared to conventional materials. This aligns with the BREEAM Outstanding certification, underscoring the project’s adherence to stringent sustainability standards.
Energy efficiency is further enhanced by 2,288 solar panels installed on-site, expected to produce approximately 870,000 kWh annually. This renewable energy supports the facility’s operations and exemplifies Rhenus’ dedication to energy independence and reduced carbon footprint.
In addition to structural innovations, the campus fosters biodiversity through the integration of green spaces and the planting of 700 to 900 native trees, contributing to the local ecosystem’s health. The development also includes three air source heat pumps and 80 electric car charging points, showcasing a holistic approach to sustainability.
Rhenus extends its environmental and social initiatives to the community by providing on-site allotments, sports facilities, and partnerships with local organisations like Nuneaton Borough Ladies and Girls FC. This outreach programme reinforces Rhenus’ role as a community-focused entity.
The strategic vision for the “Rhenus Campus” was hailed by figures such as Ronny Sassen, who emphasised the site’s role in supporting global environmental commitments. Mike Gamble also highlighted the project’s significance as a milestone in sustainable logistics solutions, reflecting the company’s forward-looking ethos.
