Brittany Ferries experienced a groundbreaking booking day as 2025 schedules were unveiled, marking the busiest in the company’s history. The introduction of two new hybrid electric ferries, the St Malo and Guillaume de Normandie, significantly contributed to this booking surge. The early unveiling of these schedules has drawn considerable attention from travellers eager to secure their journeys.
The new hybrid ferries, set to debut in February and April 2025 respectively, are equipped with advanced hybrid-LNG electric propulsion systems. These vessels, among the most environmentally friendly on the English Channel, emphasise the firm’s commitment to sustainability. Their ability to connect to shore-based power supplies is expected to reduce emissions by an estimated 15%.
A major draw for many customers is the inclusion of pet-friendly travel options. The St Malo will offer 28 pet-friendly cabins on its route, the first for this journey, while Guillaume de Normandie will provide 22 such cabins. This focus on accommodating pets reflects a broader trend in travel preferences, catering to those journeying with their animals.
The ferry operator now offers 98 weekly cross-Channel services linking Portsmouth, Poole, and Plymouth, with destinations in France and Spain, as well as increased long-haul sailings. These enhancements actively contribute to Brittany Ferries’ rising popularity among holidaymakers and regular travellers, demonstrating the company’s strategic foresight in expanding its itinerary.
On the first day of sales for the new schedule, a staggering 50% of bookings included pets, indicating strong demand for the new pet-friendly facilities. Director Paul Acheson commented on the enthusiasm surrounding the new ferries, citing the influx of bookings as proof of their exciting potential.
Brittany Ferries’ record-breaking sales reflect the rising demand for both environmentally sustainable and pet-friendly travel options.
