In a major development, contract logistics provider GXO has secured a significant three-year contract with the fashion and homeware retailer, Matalan. This strategic collaboration aims to streamline Matalan’s transport delivery operations across the UK and Ireland, enhancing the shopping experience for customers. The partnership signifies a robust logistical framework for over 200 Matalan outlets, located on high streets and within retail parks.
The agreement entails GXO making more than 550 deliveries every week using a dedicated team of 100 drivers and a fleet that comprises 55 heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and 110 trailers. This targeted approach towards efficiency not only ensures timely deliveries but also supports Matalan’s commitment to sustainability. Specially trained by GXO, the drivers are well-versed in core values focusing on safety and eco-driving techniques, which contribute to reduced emissions.
Richard Ball, who serves as GXO’s shared transport networks director, expressed enthusiasm over the partnership. He stated, “We’re delighted to be chosen by Matalan to provide transport services, including up-stream and final mile deliveries. By partnering with us for their transport operations, we’ll be able to provide Matalan with best-in-class expertise and technical solutions freeing them to focus on creating amazing fashion and home products for their customers.” Ball reiterated the priority of enhancing the supply chain efficiency, highlighting innovative solutions poised to aid Matalan’s growth.
From Matalan’s perspective, Phil Hackney, the chief supply officer, emphasises the retailer’s commitment to an exceptional customer experience facilitated by efficient supply chains. “We’re committed to going above and beyond for our Matalan customers,” Hackney noted, underscoring the importance of leveraging GXO’s technological prowess and logistical expertise.
Amidst this thriving partnership, GXO is reportedly exploring sale opportunities after receiving takeover interest, a move that follows its record revenue achievement of $2.8 billion (£2.15 billion) in the second quarter. The company is consulting with a financial adviser to consider potential suitors, which includes rival logistics entities.
This strategic alliance marks a significant advancement for both GXO and Matalan in achieving operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
