Greggs has announced the opening of its first Champagne bar, strategically situated in Fenwick department store in Newcastle. The bar, set to open on 24 October, will operate on a reservation-only basis and promises to be “the UK’s most premium Greggs.” Scheduled to remain open until 31 December, this new venture signifies a significant step in Greggs’ brand evolution, bringing together its traditional offerings with an upscale twist.
The menu, carefully curated by Fenwick’s executive head chef Mark Reid alongside Greggs, offers a reimagined experience of Greggs’ classic savouries. Each item is served with a modern touch, such as the sausage roll paired with hot honey chilli sauce, and the sausage, bean & cheese melt enhanced with bloody mary ketchup. These innovative pairings aim to elevate Greggs’ well-loved pastries to new culinary heights, presenting them in a gourmet context.
A key highlight of this venture is the introduction of a selection of handpicked Champagnes. Patrons will be able to indulge in premium options like Bollinger Rosé and Laurent Perrier, alongside the opulent Louis Roederer Cristal, which is available at £75 per glass or £425 per bottle. This concept marks Greggs’ foray into aligning its product offerings with luxury dining standards, providing a novel culinary experience that integrates casual dining with elegance.
In addition to savoury delights, the bar will offer a suite of signature cocktails inspired by Greggs’ famous sweet treats. These include the “Yum Yum Twist,” a cocktail fusing rum with real Yum Yums, and the “Cream Éclair,” composed of vanilla vodka and dark chocolate liqueur. A non-alcoholic “Peach Melba” is also available, ensuring a diverse array of choices for all preferences.
Fenwick’s strategic partnerships director Leo Fenwick highlighted the ongoing success and innovative nature of this partnership, stating, “After the phenomenal success of last year’s Bistro Greggs at Fenwick, we are proud to once again partner with the fellow North East icon, Greggs, to launch the Greggs Champagne Bar.” This sentiment was echoed by Greggs’ customer director Hannah Squirrell, who expressed excitement about building on last year’s success with another engaging and unique pop-up experience.
The Greggs Champagne Bar at Fenwick represents a novel culinary offering, merging traditional favourites with luxury dining elements, set to attract food enthusiasts and Champagne lovers alike.
