Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has consolidated its operational footprint by moving to new offices situated in Lake View, Stoke Gifford, Bristol. This strategic relocation brings together more than 200 staff members who specialise in domains such as storage technology, advanced supercomputing, hybrid cloud solutions, and cybersecurity. This move highlights HPE’s commitment to enhancing operational efficiencies and fostering innovation within these critical areas.
The company, which has been embedded in the Bristol region for over 40 years, previously operated out of multiple sites, including their former base in Filton. By unifying these operations, HPE aims to facilitate closer collaboration among its teams, thus driving advancements and improvements in their technological offerings. The relocation also integrates the HPE Cray supercomputing team, renowned for contributing to major projects like the Frontier supercomputer and the Isambard-AI system at the University of Bristol.
The acquisition of Cray in 2019 enabled HPE to strengthen its supercomputing capabilities. Now, with the Cray team’s integration into the new Bristol site, HPE is poised to make significant strides in the supercomputing arena, a move underscored by their work on some of the world’s most powerful supercomputers. As Matt Harris, HPE’s senior vice president and managing director for UK, Ireland, Middle East, and Africa, noted, bringing these diverse R&D teams under one roof is strategic, catering to the impending demands of the AI era.
In addition to its primary function as an R&D hub, the new office serves as a sales base for the South West, reflecting HPE’s broader business strategy. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art amenities designed to enhance productivity and employee satisfaction. These include labs, collaborative spaces, and fitness areas such as an on-site gym and squash court. Significantly, the office also showcases bespoke artwork from local graffiti artists, celebrating the vibrant cultural scene of Bristol.
