Morrisons has launched a large-scale recruitment initiative to hire up to 3,000 new workers across its UK stores, food production facilities, and logistics operations for the upcoming festive season. This decision is intended to handle the anticipated surge in demand during this period. The roles on offer, including customer assistants, home delivery drivers, and manufacturing and warehouse operatives, are designed with flexible working patterns and generally do not require prior experience.
In a statement made by Clare Grainger, Morrisons’ Group People Director, the supermarket is preparing for ‘the festive rush’ by seeking additional colleagues. She emphasised the critical role of these employees in enhancing the customer experience by contributing to the creation and delivery of festive products. The recruitment drive offers both temporary and permanent employment opportunities throughout the UK.
Those who join Morrisons during this recruitment phase will benefit from a 15% staff discount, complemented by a 10% discount card for a friend or family member. This benefit has historically been one of the incentives for temporary colleagues many of whom have transitioned into permanent roles within the company.
Other major retailers are also gearing up for the festive period, with Sainsbury’s planning to create 20,000 new seasonal roles nationally and M&S increasing its seasonal hiring by 1,000 to a total of 11,000 positions.
The efforts by Morrisons reflect a broader trend across the retail industry to bolster workforce numbers ahead of the busy festive season.
