Zinc Media Group has marked a significant milestone by acquiring Raw Cut Ventures, a known entity in the production of factual content, for £1m in shares. This strategic move not only brings Zinc into the Welsh market but also enriches its portfolio with Raw Cut’s acclaimed productions such as Police Interceptors and The Detectives.
Founded in 2002, Raw Cut Ventures boasts an impressive track record with over 800 hours of programming across crime, history, and documentary genres. The company’s London-based distribution arm will play a crucial role in Zinc’s objective of enhancing secondary programme value, thereby broadening its reach.
The financial standing of Raw Cut Ventures, reflected by its £4.4m revenue and £400,000 profit before tax for the year ending December 2023, underscores the acquisition’s potential. Zinc Media anticipates an increase in these figures, forecasting revenues of £4.6m with profits reaching £500,000 for the current year.
The deal includes a future payout contingent on Raw Cut meeting specific profit targets over the next two years, with an additional £5.5m payable if the average profit before tax reaches £1.3m by 2026.
Statements from Zinc’s CEO, Mark Browning, reveal a strategic alignment with Raw Cut’s expertise in ‘blue light’ programming, which complements Zinc’s vision for delivering high-quality factual content. Raw Cut CEO Steve Warr expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting opportunities for collaborative growth and a broadened reach.
This acquisition signifies a pivotal step for Zinc Media in expanding its content production capabilities and market presence.
