XPO Logistics, a leading provider in the logistics sector, has announced the deployment of 160 new rigid vehicles within its UK shared user network. This roll-out is scheduled over the next four months and targets enhancement in operational efficiency and safety across diverse service areas.
These new vehicles will be stationed at XPO’s nine core sites throughout the UK. Their services encompass a wide range of operations including shared user pallet network logistics, after-sales services, retail support, and a specialised two-person business-to-business (B2B) network. Additionally, XPO supports through-the-night deliveries for the automotive and retail sectors as well as last-mile delivery solutions tailored to technical and catering/vending markets.
In an effort to reduce environmental impact, the vehicles are equipped with more fuel-efficient engines, boasting an approximate 10% reduction in fuel consumption compared to their predecessors. This initiative aligns with broader sustainability goals within the transport industry, showcasing XPO’s forward-thinking approach to logistics.
The fleet is also outfitted with advanced safety technologies. All-around cameras have been installed to aid drivers during manoeuvres, while PIR LED lighting enhances visibility in low-light conditions for both drivers and their crews. Furthermore, audible alerts have been incorporated to warn pedestrians and motorists when the vehicles are turning or reversing, bolstering overall road safety.
Moreover, the inclusion of full closure tail lifts with all-around safety barriers ensures a secure working platform, effectively safeguarding both drivers and nearby individuals. This focus on driver welfare is complemented by the integration of driver welfare cameras, reinforcing safety and support for personnel while en route.
