Wincanton, a key player in the logistics sector, has taken a significant step in expanding its Scottish operations by securing a 15-year lease for a new distribution centre located in Bellshill. This move is recognized as one of the country’s largest industrial transactions over the past year, underscoring Wincanton’s ambitious growth strategy in the region.
Situated at Belgrave Logistics Park, the 126,920 square foot unit represents the largest letting of a speculative new build in Greater Glasgow since 2018. Positioned within the region’s industrial ‘golden triangle’, Wincanton’s new establishment is only six miles from its existing Motherwell hub, launched in April the previous year. This strategic location is intended to meet the increasing demands of its expanding client base effectively.
Derek Stirling, Wincanton’s country manager for Scotland, expressed enthusiasm about the development, stating that the new distribution centre reaffirms the company’s long-term commitment to Scotland. “This new distribution centre, our second in Scotland within two years, promises enhanced services and efficiencies for our customers and partners across the country,” he noted. The proximity of the new facility to the Motherwell hub is designed to achieve operational synergy, facilitating improved logistics services.
The distribution unit is designed with high specifications, featuring state-of-the-art composite wall and roof cladding, an impressive internal height of 12 metres, four level access doors, and 16 dock levellers. These features aim to ensure operational efficiency and high service quality, meeting modern logistics demands. The transaction was completed with Knight Property Group, the developer and landlord, indicating a robust partnership in enhancing Scotland’s logistics infrastructure.
