The evolution of Travel Counsellors’ TC Teams technology represents a significant post-Covid development for the organisation. With an impressive surge in annual profits by 64% to almost £33 million, the company attributes much of this success to its strategic adoption of TC Teams, a feature of its Phenix platform.
Travel Counsellors’ CEO, Steve Byrne, emphasised the platform’s role in attracting talented travel counsellors, with approximately 300 new counsellors joining each year. He praised the TC Teams technology for its ability to allow agents to collaborate effectively, delegating tasks or consulting with peers who have expertise in particular products or destinations. This collaborative capability has enabled top-selling agents to exponentially increase their sales figures, from £1 million to £5 million annually, up to £10 million or even £20 million.
The platform’s integration has allowed agents to scale their operations in alignment with personal business ambitions. Described by Byrne as the most significant evolution of their business model since the pandemic, this collaborative model was initially pioneered by forward-thinking agents before Covid-19 upended the industry.
In the realm of sales, premium holidays constitute approximately 78% of leisure sales, mostly facilitated through the Phenix platform. Despite strong performance in traditional beach holidays, there is a noticeable shift towards more complex and tailor-made itineraries, demanded by premium leisure customers seeking unique experiences. Key growth markets include Asia, with Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Japan seeing substantial traction alongside luxury cruising options.
Furthermore, the company’s travel tracker survey underscores the continued popularity of destinations like the US, Italy, Spain, and Greece, alongside an increasing demand for experiential travel. Findings from the survey highlight that 55% of respondents intend to prioritise spending on holidays, with an upswing in this intention compared to the previous year.
The data reveals a robust appetite for travel, with winter 2024-25 departures up by 25% and summer 2025 looking even brighter with a 37% increase in bookings. This strong demand underpins the company’s focus on premium leisure travel and corporate clients, particularly small to medium-sized enterprises. Byrne maintains that the discretion and care provided by their travel counsellors are key differentiators in the market.
Regarding organisational growth, Byrne confirmed that since the acquisition of Holidaysplease in March 2023, 57 agents have transitioned to Travel Counsellors, benefiting from the Phenix platform’s capabilities for creating bespoke itineraries. While no immediate acquisitions are planned, the company prioritises organic growth.”
Travel Counsellors’ strategic implementation of the TC Teams platform has driven substantive growth, establishing a post-Covid benchmark in the travel industry.
