In February 2024, Travel Counsellors experienced an unprecedented surge in cruise sales, which contributed to a record-breaking month for the company. This homeworking travel agency reported UK leisure travel sales of £60 million, an impressive 20 per cent increase from the previous year, making it the best February performance in its 30-year history. Such remarkable growth highlights the robust demand for cruise travel among consumers.
Cruise bookings have seen a notable rise, with an increase of nearly 40 per cent compared to the same period in the previous year. This growth was fuelled by a strong January performance, where bookings for holiday-at-sea surpassed £10 million. The popularity of cruise holidays is evident as they now constitute almost 15 per cent of Travel Counsellors’ leisure sales, underscoring an upward trend in this mode of travel.
Luxury cruises, in particular, have climbed into the top three trending holiday types that Travel Counsellors business owners are booking. This indicates a shift towards more opulent travel experiences as customers seek out premium options for their sea voyages. Jim Eastwood, Global Sales Director, noted the enduring appeal of cruising, whether for exploration or leisure, stating, “Cruising has always been a much-loved way for Travel Counsellors’ customers to discover the world, one port at a time.”
The company’s success is also attributed to its ‘Fab Feb’ incentive programme, which encouraged agents to outperform their previous February sales results. The more bookings an agent secured, the greater their chances of winning luxurious getaways to destinations like Antigua and a Bali-Singapore twin centre trip. This initiative saw over 150 agents achieving their best-ever sales month, with the top five achieving sales in six figures each.
Amid this surge in bookings, Travel Counsellors also hosted a ‘drop-in training day’ with industry partner Virgin Voyages. The training was designed to further empower agents amid the rising interest in both ocean and river cruise bookings. Such events underline the company’s commitment to fostering strong partnerships and enhancing its agents’ expertise in the growing cruise sector.
Travel Counsellors’ record-breaking performance in February underscores the growing appeal of cruise travel among consumers.
