Walking, chosen by 30% of participants, ranks second among the activities. Known for its physical and mental health benefits, walking offers a simple yet effective means to boost overall wellbeing.
Following closely, cooking and baking attract 29% of respondents. These activities are celebrated for their ability to stimulate the senses and elevate self-esteem, offering a creative outlet for many.
A variety of solo sports, enjoyed by 25% of those surveyed, also contribute to physical fitness and personal growth. Meanwhile, team sports, with an 18% participation rate, provide a sense of camaraderie and collective achievement.
Creative pursuits such as journaling, writing, and art activities like drawing show notable engagement, with participation rates of 22% and 20% respectively. These activities are lauded for aiding cognitive function, personal growth, and anxiety reduction.
Only six per cent of respondents reported having no hobbies for relaxation, indicating that a significant majority recognise the importance of leisure activities for stress management and mental health.
Psychotherapist Kamalyn Kaur highlights the mental wellbeing benefits of hobbies, stating: “Engaging in activities that YOU enjoy is a great way of escaping the day-to-day routines and responsibilities… promoting mental wellbeing and self-care.”
