In a bid to inspire festive cheer, Tesco has launched its latest Christmas advert, crafted by advertising firm BBH. The narrative follows a character named Gary, whose Christmas spirit is reignited through a series of gingerbread-themed visualisations.
Gary’s adventure begins when his grandfather gives him a pack of gingerbread men, causing his surroundings to magically transform into a gingerbread landscape. This fantastical setting includes a gingerbread scooter and a gingerbread Tesco till, capturing the essence of whimsy and wonder.
However, the whimsical world starts to deteriorate as Gary is reminded of his grandmother’s absence during the festive season. Despite this, the story depicts a heartwarming moment where Gary and his grandfather rebuild the tradition of constructing a gingerbread house together, an activity he shared with his grandmother.
The advert poignantly portrays how this homemade gingerbread house becomes a centrepiece on the Christmas table, surrounded by an array of festive foods. This scene symbolises the culmination of regained Christmas spirit, further illustrated by the transformation of the grandfather’s house into gingerbread.
As part of the campaign, Tesco has committed to donating 10p from the sale of each gingerbread product to the charities Trussell and Fareshare. This initiative aims to contribute positively during the Christmas season and emphasizes Tesco’s broader social responsibility efforts.
Through this campaign, Tesco aims to enhance the festive spirit while supporting charitable causes.
