Taylor Machine Works has announced a collaboration with Proterra, leveraging Proterra’s advanced battery technology to power several lines of electric industrial equipment. Chris Bailey, CEO of Proterra, expressed enthusiasm about renewing the partnership, highlighting the role of ports in economic activities and the potential of Proterra’s premium battery technology in driving zero-emission initiatives.
The agreement covers several electric equipment lines, including the Taylor ZLC and ZEC-series electric container handlers, ZRS-series reach stackers, and ZH-series electric forklifts. These are designed to enhance port and industrial operations by providing efficient, sustainable alternatives to traditional machinery.
Robert Taylor, CEO of Taylor Machine Works, expressed excitement about the integration of Proterra’s battery platforms across their zero-emission heavy-lift equipment. He noted the commitment to offering BABA (Build America Buy America) compliant electric lift trucks, supporting their mission for sustainable industrial solutions.
Introduced in 2019, the ZLC series was the first zero-emission, battery-electric container handler capable of managing up to 90,000 pounds. Recently deployed at the Port of Los Angeles, the equipment has shown significant operational capacity. The Generation II Taylor ZLC-996 units, powered by Proterra, demonstrate run times between 16 to 20 hours per charge.
Proterra’s battery system boasts robust features, such as 984 kWh of onboard energy, catering to the demands of intensive port operations. The ZRS reach stackers and ZEC handlers also offer impressive two-shift runtimes, essential for continuous port and inland facility operations.
The ZH series of forklifts, with capacities ranging from 36,000 lbs to 100,000 lbs, demonstrate applicability for handling heavy materials in various industrial settings. This range further underscores the adaptability of Proterra’s battery technology in diverse operational scenarios.
Proudly designed and assembled in the United States, Proterra’s batteries represent a premier choice for commercial vehicle electrification. The innovative design promises unparalleled energy density and safety, appropriate for buses, trucks, and construction equipment.
The collaboration between Taylor Machine Works and Proterra not only aims to deliver eco-friendly solutions but also aligns with broader environmental programs such as the EPA Clean Ports Program. This venture is a notable advancement for zero-emission machinery within critical industrial sectors.
The partnership signifies a pivotal step towards sustainable industrial machinery, enhancing zero-emission efforts in port operations.
