T-Mobile (NASDAQ: TMUS) has expanded LTE network speed and coverage in Atlanta ahead of Super Bowl LIII, permanently boosting capacity by up to 8x at key locations, the company said.
And T-Mobile customers already had access to the fastest LTE network in the Atlanta metro area!
T-Mobile permanently increased network capacity and coverage where the biggest crowds are expected, including Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, key hotels throughout the city, along transit routes and at dozens of Super Bowl event venues like Cobb Galleria, Centennial Olympic Park, Georgia World Congress Center and State Farm Arena. The Un-carrier also doubled LTE capacity at SunTrust Park and enhanced the network throughout Midtown, Downtown and around the stadium and tailgate areas so fans can stream, tweet, post and chat all they want.
To enhance indoor coverage and speed at key venues throughout the city, T-Mobile deployed more than 300 small cells — most enabled with License Assisted Access (LAA), an LTE–Advanced technology that delivers more capacity and speed — and 20 new Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS). Mercedes-Benz Stadium was updated with the highest capacity DAS on T-Mobile´s network, with 50% more capacity than the next largest stadium, and the Un-carrier´s first outdoor C-RAN system in the tailgating and events areas. C-RAN technology improves network performance in high traffic scenarios, and even helps extend smartphone battery life, so fans can follow and share game day updates without needing to plug in.
