A new collaboration between Knowles Logistics and Shawton Energy is making waves in sustainable warehousing.
- The Wisbech distribution centre now features a rooftop solar installation, reducing carbon emissions significantly.
- Projected figures estimate a reduction of 135 tonnes in carbon emissions annually for the site.
- This initiative aligns with Knowles Logistics’ ambitious net zero goals for 2030 and 2045.
- The solar installation also supports Princes’ extensive 2030 GreenGoals initiative.
In an environmentally conscious move, Knowles Logistics has teamed up with Shawton Energy to install a rooftop solar energy system at their Wisbech distribution centre. This significant upgrade is expected to lower the site’s carbon emissions by approximately 135 tonnes each year, highlighting a substantial commitment to sustainability.
The investment is part of a broader strategy by Knowles Logistics to achieve net zero warehousing operations by 2030 and net zero transport by 2045. Installed in June, the solar panels offer a renewable energy source for the site, which serves as a crucial hub for Princes, a global food and drink company. Alex Knowles, Managing Director of Knowles Logistics, emphasised their dedication to sustainable practices, stating that the company aims to continuously enhance its green energy initiatives across its extensive portfolio.
From Shawton Energy’s perspective, this partnership represents a valuable opportunity to contribute to the green agenda of businesses. “Supporting clients with their green agenda is something we’re proud to be involved in,” commented Jamie Shaw, Shawton Energy’s CEO. The company, known for providing innovative solar solutions, sees this collaboration as a testament to their ability to cater to the unique energy needs of warehousing and food manufacturing facilities.
Furthermore, this installation contributes significantly to Princes’ 2030 GreenGoals initiative, which seeks to achieve carbon neutrality across all UK and international operations. Shawton Energy, offering comprehensive solar solutions to various clients, has been actively engaged in promoting carbon reduction in the food sector, including partnerships with major brands such as Heinz and Nestle.
Shawton Energy’s ambitious plans are backed by Lazard Asset Management, facilitating fully funded solar photovoltaic initiatives. Since 2023, mounting pressures from retailers and consumers have propelled companies like Shawton Energy to enhance their sustainable supply chain offerings. This aligns with the efforts of major supermarket chains involved in the Manufacture 2030 initiative, aiming to decarbonise supply chains efficiently.
This partnership exemplifies a progressive step towards sustainable logistics and energy use in distribution centres.
