In a significant move, InPost has fully acquired Menzies Distribution Limited to bolster its UK operations.
- The £60.4 million deal grants InPost full control of Menzies’ express and newstrade operations.
- Menzies Distribution Services remains independent, continuing under the management of Endless LLP.
- The acquisition is set to enhance InPost’s logistics capabilities and introduce a B2C parcel locker service.
- Increased market presence will allow InPost to meet the UK’s growing demand for efficient parcel locker services.
InPost, a renowned Polish-owned courier and parcel delivery firm, has completed the acquisition of the remaining 70% in Menzies Distribution Limited for £60.4 million. This strategic purchase now allows InPost to exert full control over Menzies’ express and newstrade operations, a critical step in cementing its presence in the UK market. However, it is important to note that Menzies Distribution Services, the company’s arm responsible for full load transport services and warehousing, remains outside this transaction. This division will continue to operate under the aegis of Endless LLP, maintaining its existing management structure.
InPost’s position in the UK is notably bolstered by its substantial parcel locker network, which includes approximately 6,400 automated parcel machines and some 1,450 pick up and drop off points. By acquiring Menzies, InPost aims to leverage this capability to meet escalating consumer demand in what is the largest e-commerce market in Europe. The acquisition is expected to enable InPost to scale its operations more rapidly and effectively, as it introduces a new B2C next-day parcel locker service, thereby enhancing service delivery.
The partnership between InPost and Menzies, initiated earlier in 2023 with InPost’s acquisition of a 30% stake at £49.3 million, has already yielded substantial commercial benefits. InPost reported a significant 156% increase in UK parcel volumes in the first half of the year, reaching 41 million parcels compared to 16 million during the corresponding period in the previous year. The collaboration has also boosted InPost’s revenue in the UK from PLN 140 million to PLN 412 million over the past year, illustrating the financial viability and potential of this union.
Chief Executive of the InPost Group, Rafał Brzoska, articulated the strategic importance of this acquisition, stating: “With this strategic acquisition, InPost fully insources logistics in the UK. With Menzies fully integrated, we are even better positioned to create an exceptional offering in terms of quality, price and convenience for both merchants and consumers.” He emphasised the transformative nature of this acquisition, which aims to redefine e-commerce delivery standards within the UK.
Neil Kuschel, InPost UK’s CEO, highlighted the acquisition as a pivotal milestone, facilitating accelerated growth and market penetration. The integration of Menzies’ capabilities is anticipated to enhance InPost’s operational agility and competitive edge, especially with the increasing popularity of locker deliveries among UK consumers. This move consolidates strengths from both entities under unified leadership, thereby amplifying service efficiency and customer satisfaction.
The acquisition of Menzies by InPost represents a formidable step towards redefining e-commerce logistics in the UK, ensuring enhanced service delivery and market leadership.
