Princess Cruises has announced the new Sphere-class ship, Star Princess, will commence its inaugural season in the Mediterranean in August 2025. This expansion signifies a movement towards sustainable cruising as it becomes the line’s second vessel powered by liquefied natural gas.
The vessel is under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, exemplifying a leap in cruise ship design. Princess Cruises highlights that Star Princess will integrate its heritage with modern innovations, showcasing dynamic and expansive sea views.
Star Princess is set to be 20% larger than any existing ships in the fleet, yet it will maintain the intimate settings synonymous with Princess Cruises. Onboard, passengers can experience new elements, such as the Dome—a transforming entertainment venue—and the Princess Arena.
Additional amenities include a novel dining area at the aft of the vessel, among other enhanced food and beverage concepts. These features aim to enrich the onboard experience by offering passengers familiarity with a hint of the extraordinary.
John Padgett, president of Princess Cruises, applauds the ship’s design, stating that its ‘sleek, eye-catching design and spacious interiors’ will echo the allure found on Sun Princess. The anticipation for its debut has already spurred interest among cruise enthusiasts.
The Star Princess will première on a nine-day Italy & Greece voyage departing from Rome, followed by varied itineraries of nine and ten-day journeys, setting sail from major cities such as Rome, Athens, or Trieste. These voyages form part of the extensive Europe 2025 programme, officially open for bookings since June.
With its innovative design and advanced features, Star Princess represents a significant milestone for Princess Cruises as it paves the way toward a forward-thinking cruising experience.
