In a strategic move to strengthen its Northern operations, Channel 4’s widely acclaimed daytime series, Chateau DIY, will now be produced in Sheffield, Yorkshire. This follows a new two-year partnership with Spark Media Partners, who originally launched the franchise in 2018. The production will be handled by Spark Media North, a key player in the region’s media scene.
Spearheading this initiative, Jayne Stanger, a Leeds-based Senior Commissioning Editor for Lifestyle, along with Jo Street, Director of Commissioning for Nations and Regions, have been instrumental in recommissioning the show. “Chateau DIY continues to delight audiences,” said Stanger, expressing her enthusiasm about collaborating with the Spark Media North team to deliver more episodes over the next couple of years.
The franchise, which documents the restoration of historic chateaux throughout France, will see an increase in production with each series expanding from the standard 30 hour-long episodes to 45. This significant augmentation reflects Channel 4’s commitment to the programme, underscoring its continued popularity among viewers.
Further demonstrating the show’s success, series 7 witnessed a 30% rise in streaming figures compared to previous entries. Additionally, the series secured a peak audience share of 8% when broadcasted in Channel 4’s 5pm slot in 2024, with a steady average of 622,000 viewers, surpassing the channel’s benchmark of 480,000.
The festive iteration of the series, Chateau DIY at Christmas, will persist with an extended series of two five-part episodes set for 2024 and 2025. This extension forms part of the broader recommissioning strategy, reflecting strong audience demand and the franchise’s robust performance.
Channel 4’s decision to relocate Chateau DIY’s production underscores its commitment to regional media growth and the show’s enduring appeal.
