- The store will be located at Newport Road, occupying a 14,000 sq ft space that was formerly Newport Furnishers.
- Scheduled to open next summer, the store forms part of a wider UK expansion aimed at introducing standalone stores.
- Real estate agencies CBRE and EJ Hales have been instrumental in the site’s acquisition and development.
- Cardiff will also see the launch of a new bridal boutique by Eva Ashley, aiming to offer exclusive high-fashion designs.
The American footwear conglomerate, Skechers, is embarking on a strategic expansion plan within the United Kingdom, with Cardiff selected as the site for its innovative store design. Taking over an expansive 14,000 sq ft unit on Newport Road, previously occupied by Newport Furnishers, this marks a significant landmark in the brand’s growth strategy, set to materialise by June next year.
This initiative is representative of a broader strategic vision by Skechers to proliferate its presence across the UK through the establishment of distinctive standalone store concepts. Real estate firms, Sterling Real Estate IM and EJ Hales, have brokered the leasing agreement, although specific financial details remain undisclosed. In parallel, renowned agency CBRE has acted on behalf of Skechers, ensuring the acquisition aligns with their brand standards.
An extensive remodelling and refurbishment process is currently underway, underscoring Skechers’ commitment to offering a contemporary shopping environment. Enhancements include new glazing, updated cladding, and distinctive entry features complementing a redesigned access to the store’s upper floor, catering to modern retail expectations.
In addition to Skechers’ ventures, Cardiff’s retail landscape is gearing up for another significant addition. Eva Ashley Bridal, a high-end bridal boutique known for unique gown selections, is expanding its operations with a forthcoming store in Castle Arcade. Managed by sisters Rebecca and Rachel Chick, the company prides itself on providing exclusive bridal options not commonly found elsewhere. “We are so excited to bring our concept to Cardiff,” expressed the owners, highlighting their dedication to bespoke bridal fashion.
Scheduled for launch at the end of the month, the Cardiff store will be the largest for Eva Ashley Bridal to date, complementing existing locations in Swansea and Tonypandy. It reflects the success and ambition of the brand since its establishment in 2017.
The expansion of Skechers and Eva Ashley Bridal into Cardiff signals a promising retail development, contributing to the city’s diverse shopping offerings.
