In the wake of Hurricane Helene’s disruption, Sibelco has successfully resumed operations at its high purity quartz mining and processing facilities in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. The company has reassured stakeholders that all employees are safe and shipments to customers have restarted. Production and shipment volumes are being ramped up progressively towards full capacity.
Sibelco’s CEO, Hilmar Rode, expressed gratitude to the employees for their resilience and teamwork. He acknowledged the long path to recovery but highlighted the importance of restarting operations for the economic rejuvenation of the surrounding community. “I want to thank our employees for their remarkable resilience and teamwork under these extremely difficult circumstances,” Rode stated, underscoring the effort to restore stability.
Beyond stabilising its operations, Sibelco has actively participated in local recovery efforts. These initiatives include debris clearance, road repairs, and providing materials to the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Furthermore, temporary power generators were installed at emergency shelters and local businesses, positively impacting the immediate community needs.
In a bid to further aid recovery, the Sibelco Spruce Pine Foundation was initiated with an immediate $1 million donation. This foundation aims to bolster ongoing local recovery initiatives and support rebuilding efforts extensively. The company encourages interested parties to engage with the foundation through established communication channels.
Sibelco’s swift action in resuming operations and supporting community recovery exemplifies its commitment to both economic and social resilience post-disaster.
