Scan Global Logistics (SGL), a prominent freight forwarder from Denmark, has made a strategic move by opening its first office in Ireland. This expansion is a critical step in enhancing their presence within a ‘critical trade region’ that serves as a gateway between North America and Europe. By choosing Ireland, SGL taps into a well-regarded logistics hub known for facilitating transatlantic trade, thereby bolstering its operational reach and market access.
With a workforce exceeding 4,200 globally and more than 190 offices, including three in the United Kingdom located in Aylesford, Heathrow, and Newcastle, SGL continues to position itself as a leader in global logistics. The company’s strategy is clear: expand into regions that not only offer robust market opportunities but also provide direct access to essential trade corridors.
The establishment of the new office in Ireland is seen as a natural progression in SGL’s mission to provide comprehensive and tailored logistics solutions. Lars Syberg, the Chief Executive of SGL’s EMEA operations, stated that this development reinforces their strategic focus on enhancing capabilities in key markets. Neil Murray, the Managing Director for the UK and Ireland, noted Ireland’s critical role due to its strategic location. Scott Darcy, the newly appointed Country Director for Ireland, will lead efforts under Neil Murray’s guidance. Murray emphasised their mission to simplify logistics challenges by offering efficient, reliable, and forward-thinking solutions, thereby increasing agility in meeting customer needs both locally and globally.
This move is part of a broader agenda by SGL to expand its global footprint, following recent ventures into Italy through the acquisition of Foppiani Shipping & Logistics and establishing a foothold in Saudi Arabia earlier in the year.
