The Cheshire hotel and golf club has selected Russell WBHO for the most significant phase of its £50m development programme, aiming to enhance its luxury offerings. Since October 2023, the South African-owned, Manchester-based contractor has been actively working on-site at The Mere Golf Resort & Spa in Knutsford. The goal is to elevate the resort to a five-star status, focusing on substantial enhancements.
The development plan includes the addition of 30 new guest rooms to the existing 87, significantly boosting the resort’s accommodation capacity. This expansion underlines the hotel’s commitment to offering premium lodging options. Furthermore, the plan features a two-storey expansion of the conference venue, designed to host larger events and attract a more diverse clientele.
In addition to these upgrades, the construction of a new golf pavilion and restaurant further enhances the resort’s appeal. The improvements to the main building will also involve creating a new entrance, reception area, and kitchen space, all of which contribute to the resort’s luxurious ambiance.
Fairmont Cheshire at The Mere Golf Resort & Spa is set to become Accor’s fourth Fairmont-branded property in the UK, alongside renowned destinations such as Fairmont Windsor Park and The Savoy. This association with a prestigious brand reflects Russell WBHO’s dedication to excellence.
Gareth Russell, Managing Director of Russell WBHO, expressed pride in partnering with Select Group for this project. He stated, “Fairmont Cheshire The Mere Golf Resort & Spa will be one of the most exclusive hotel, golf and spa destinations in the north of England.” This sentiment is echoed by Select Group’s Chief Executive, Israr Liaqat, who praised Russell WBHO’s expertise in meeting the project’s aspirations.
