Royal Caribbean Group has reported an extraordinary start to 2024, exceeding its expectations.
- The company saw its highest booking weeks in history during this period, driven by strong demand.
- Bookings for all four quarters in 2024 are ahead of previous years in both rate and volume.
- Onboard consumer spending has surpassed past levels, with higher price participation.
- Guidance for 2024 has been adjusted upwards owing to robust revenue expectations.
The Royal Caribbean Group has entered 2024 with an exceptional wave season, witnessing the five most significant booking weeks in its history occurring since the year’s onset. This remarkable performance has been substantially higher compared to the same period last year, propelling a robust start to the year.
Booking metrics reveal that for 2024, every quarter and key products are surpassing the numbers seen at the same time last year, both in terms of rate and volume. Additionally, consumer spending for onboard purchases has consistently outperformed prior years, powered by increased participation at elevated prices.
Jason Liberty, the president and CEO of Royal Caribbean, articulated the unexpected swell in demand for the group’s vacation experiences, which has not only surpassed initial projections but also prompted an increase in Royal Caribbean’s 2024 financial guidance. He confidently stated, “Since our last earnings call, robust demand for our vacation experiences has significantly exceeded our initial expectations.”
Consequently, the company has decided to enhance its 2024 Adjusted EPS guidance by $0.40, positioning it between $9.90 and $10.10 for the full fiscal year. This adjustment is based on an approximate 100 basis points rise in constant currency net yield growth compared to February’s guidance.
In alignment with this growth, Royal Caribbean Group has also engaged French shipbuilder Chantiers de l’Atlantique to commission a seventh Oasis class ship, expected to join the fleet in 2028. This follows the arrival of three new vessels: Silver Nova, Celebrity Ascent, and Icon of the Seas, marking a significant expansion for the group.
The 2024 wave season exemplifies Royal Caribbean Group’s sustained growth and future potential.
