- Paradigm encourages involvement through food and toiletry donations or financial contributions.
- Previous efforts raised substantial funds and donations, aiming for even greater support this year.
Paradigm has embarked on its seventh annual ‘Reverse Advent’ charity drive, a concerted effort that seeks to combat hunger and provide essential support to those in need across the UK. The campaign is in collaboration with Trussell, a significant network of food banks dedicated to delivering emergency food and support to individuals facing crises. Recent statistics reveal a dramatic surge in demand for such services, with over 3.1 million emergency food parcels distributed between 1st April 2023 and 31st March 2024. Alarmingly, children received 1.1 million of these parcels, highlighting the critical need for this initiative.
Paradigm calls upon its network of over 1,900 firms and strategic partners within the financial services industry to engage actively in this effort. Participants are encouraged to collect non-perishable food items and toiletries at their offices, which can then be delivered to local food banks to aid those struggling during these challenging times. Paradigm’s offices are open to receive such donations, which will subsequently be dispatched to their local distribution centres for effective allocation.
In addition to food and toiletry collections, Paradigm facilitates financial contributions through a dedicated Just Giving page, inviting both individuals and organisations to make monetary donations. Last year, the initiative gathered over £1,400 in financial aid alongside physical donations. This year, Paradigm aims to surpass this figure, urging the community to contribute generously.
The Paradigm team, committed and compassionate, has consistently dedicated over 25 days in recent years to volunteering at the Trussell food bank distribution centre in Sparkhill, Birmingham. Reflecting on the persistent growth in demand for assistance, Riona Mulherin, Paradigm’s director of marketing and operations, acknowledged the significant and growing impact of Trussell’s work, underscoring the continued necessity for community support.
Mulherin’s statement encapsulates the essence of this drive: “Each year it would be nice to think that the need for our charity drive lessens, but unfortunately that’s not the case… the sheer number of food parcels delivered by Trussell shows just how important this organisation is and the difference it makes…” This sentiment is echoed in the visible support already rendered by partners such as The Mortgage Lender and Newcastle Building Society, both of whom have commenced contributions to this year’s efforts.
The ‘Reverse Advent’ drive epitomises the power of collective action in addressing hunger and supporting vulnerable communities in the UK.
