Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has promoted Richard Wager to the role of regional sales executive, focusing on the north of the United Kingdom. His previous position was a cruise specialist at the NCL Partner Contact Centre, where he had been since joining the company in October 2021. The move is part of NCL’s strategy to reinforce its presence and influence throughout this key region.
In his new capacity, Wager will undertake the crucial task of enhancing and expanding the company’s brand presence in northern England and Scotland. He will also play a pivotal role in supporting travel agents and partners across these areas, reporting directly to Nigel Rankin, the senior business development manager for retail.
Wager is armed with significant expertise and a strong customer-centric approach, honed over a lengthy career in the travel and tourism sector. His prior experiences as cabin crew with Monarch Airlines and Virgin Atlantic have prepared him well for this role. Expressing his enthusiasm, he stated, ‘It’s an honour to step into this role at NCL. This year has some great things in store for the brand, including the launch of our new ship Norwegian Aqua, the third vessel in the Prima class, and I am excited to expand awareness in the north of the UK, which is a very important area to NCL.’
Nigel Rankin commended the appointment, highlighting the importance of trade partners to NCL’s UK success. ‘Trade partners are critical to our success in the UK, and we are delighted to be developing our trade sales team with Richard’s appointment. He will be an asset to the NCL sales team and in supporting frontline agents in the Northern region.’
This strategic appointment coincides with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings’ significant investment into its fleet expansion. The parent company has committed to the most comprehensive new build order in its history, commissioning eight new vessels that will introduce new classes of ships for each of its three brands: NCL, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises. Such a move signifies a bold step towards future growth and innovation within the cruise industry.
Richard Wager’s appointment marks a strategic enhancement of NCL’s sales operations in the northern UK, aligning with wider company growth initiatives.
