Prohire has announced a substantial investment of £5 million to upgrade its national rental fleet, specifically through the addition of 70 new vehicles. This strategic move includes integrating the latest models from esteemed manufacturers such as DAF, Iveco, and Mercedes Benz into its existing Proflex fleet, which currently numbers over 400 vehicles. This fleet enhancement reflects a 17.5% renewal and is aimed at bolstering the company’s capacity to meet customer demands across the UK.
The new fleet is equipped with various vehicle types, ranging from 3.5-tonne integral vans to larger 7.5-tonne and 18-tonne dry freight vehicles, as well as 18-tonne and 26-tonne refrigerated vehicles. By diversifying its rental options, Prohire ensures that it caters to a wide array of operational requirements, from light commercial activities to heavy-duty transportation. Prohire’s commitment to remaining at the forefront of rental services is evident in this well-rounded fleet augmentation.
According to John Robinson, Prohire’s Chief Commercial Officer, the investment represents the firm’s dedication to maintaining a ‘modern, highly specified, diverse rental fleet’. This approach not only supports flexible fleet needs but also aligns with the company’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals by introducing more fuel-efficient and electric vehicles. Robinson emphasised the company’s resolve to position itself as a leader in sustainable vehicle hiring across the UK.
In addition to fleet upgrades, Prohire is reinforcing its leadership by appointing experienced industry professionals. Dean Bailey steps into the role of Operations Director, bringing his expertise to the company’s senior management team. Meanwhile, Susan Shardlow has been confirmed as the Chief Financial Officer, a role she has effectively managed since December 2023. These leadership changes are expected to steer the company successfully through its next growth phase, ensuring operational excellence and strategic alignment with sustainability objectives.
The recent visit by Jo Gideon, Member of Parliament for Stoke-on-Trent Central, to Prohire’s headquarters underscored the company’s impressive growth trajectory. Prohire’s expansion is backed by significant private equity investment, particularly from NorthEdge Capital, which acquired a majority stake in 2018. Gideon praised Prohire for its ambitious plans and its role in pioneering sustainable vehicle hire solutions in the UK.
Prohire’s strategic investments are setting a new standard in the vehicle rental industry, with a strong focus on modernisation and sustainability.
